The Business & Ethics
of Private Practice
Online pre-registration is now closed but seats are available for onsite registration. Please join us!
Did your graduate school of social work teach business? Many clinical social workers start private practice expecting to ‘build it and they will come.’ Managed care and preferred provider networks have dramatically transformed the way private practitioners conduct their business. Today’s technology and information world is only remotely related to traditional private practice of yesteryear. Ethically, most major issues remain the same; however, social networking has frustrated even the best clinician when it comes to making ethical decisions.
This workshop addresses the business, technological, and ethical issues evident today, including:
- Costs of doing business as applicable to private practice;
- Technological changes affecting clinicians – including cyber-security, NASW & ASWB standards for today’s clinical social worker, and more;
- Reporting and accountability changes including HIPAA; and,
- A cursory review of the DSM-5 and the ICD-10.
Workshop participants will:
1.) Demonstrate a basic understanding of the business and ethics of private practice.
2.) Identify specific potential problem areas of individual practices;
3.) Articulate a working knowledge of possible ethical concerns within ones’ practice.
